The last day!

Another great day is in the books.

We started off stuck in terrible traffic, but eventually made our way to the United Nations. This year, Ms. Cheng and I had a great group of interested kids, and a tour guide who spoke up and was clearly understood and did a great job of engaging our group. I thoroughly enjoyed the tour, and I think most of the kids with me did as well.

Following that, we headed over to the Time Warner building near Columbus Circle for a lunch break, before we proceeded into Central Park. I couldn't afford to sniff the air in most of the stores in there, but the food was a bit more reasonable.

We then proceeded to walk thru Central Park for a while, seeing some sights and learning the history of the park. This was where I started taking the candids you see below. We finished our walking tour at the Met. I started in a group of 30, and managed to split off with 10 kids. We toured the Medieval weapons and armour, musical instruments, Egypt, the Roof Garden and Modern Art. At a few points, I was practically dragging the kids along - I think some are getting quite tired of walking.

What did they think we've been making them run during DPA for the last few months for?

We then headed to Spanky's BBQ, which was surprisingly good - I thought the big burgers would be tough to top - but everything there was absolutely delicious. I'll be back on my diet tomorrow - I swear. :)

Then - Grease. I'll be honest - Broadway hasn't impressed me too much. I missed the Lion King a few years ago, saw Tarzan last year, my wife and I attended the Color Purple last summer....if we were short a ticket, I volunteered myself to miss out.

Well, I'm pleased to say that Grease was really good, except for Taylor Hicks. I'm sure he's up there in his silver suit every night saying to himself "But I won American Idol - how did I come to this?" He's so desparate he came out for extensive autographs after the show - many Miner students got one.

The buses were delayed in traffic to pick us up, and by the time we got onboard and thru the tunnels and construction, it was approaching 11:30 before we returned to the hotel. The rooms aren't too bad this year - no need for the governor of NJ and the state of emergency this year!

I can't speak for anyone else, but I can't wait to see my little girls tomorrow - I've missed them very much.

I'll put up some more photos later - the non-candids. :)

Hope you've enjoyed the blog - until the next Miner travel opportunity.

Thanks so much for doing this, we (including my coworkers) have enjoyed reading the updates and especilally seeing the terrific snap shots. Alex has had an amazing time (obvious in her many text messages to home). What a wonderful way to finish the year and her time at Jack Miner. Cecelia Dursley
