What a day we had yesterday!
Boarded the buses and headed for Yankee stadium - it was totally awesome to see the bones of the new stadium rising right next to the old. You can see the similiarities of design between the two - I tried to capture both in a picture, and wasn't able to get far enough away. We took group shots there, then those who were interested got to tour the gift shop.
Following that, we headed for Harlem and the Apollo Theater, which I'm sure for many was the highlight of this trip. At least for me, it was.
We got a brief history of the theater, followed by....a mock amateur night.
I decided to go up there, along with Madison, Martina, Paige, Alison, Dylan, and....one other guy, whose name escapes me at this hour.
To my dismay, I was picked to go first. So there I was, belting out Oh Canada on the stage at the Apollo. Good thing Mr. Lappano wasn't there to hear it being butchered, and thank goodness the rules didn't allow booing. Everyone else from Miner sounded much better, I'm sure. :)
Following that, we headed uptown, and gave the kids a bit of free time on 5th avenue. We saw a lot of them in FAO Schwartz, as well as the Apple Store, and there seemed to be some more bags. After regrouping, we did the Radio City Tour, which was once again very cool. The Rockette we met this year had a more engaging personality than last year.
Following this, we got caught in a short rainstorm by the Rockefeller skating rink (or restaurant, as it exists currently), then we headed to Hurley's Saloon for dinner. All I can say is, I've never seen the likes of that burger. It was definitely NOT high in fibre, but was, when stacked, a good 10-15 centimetres tall.
Hurleys was rather slow in service, so we got to Top of the Rock later than planned, and to the buses later than planned as well. The really surprising thing for me has been how light Lincoln Tunnel traffic has been - it's been a nightmare on every other trip to NYC for me - this year it's a breeze, two nights in a row. Hope it keeps up.
Off to the Met, Central Park and Broadway today!
I'm going to try to post pics before we leave, but I fell asleep without charging the camera last night, so it may not be possible until tonight!
