Wow! Today started off great! Believe it or not, the kids were bright-eyed, chipper and ready to go this morning. Unlike being at home, they were actually early for “class” today!
After a good breakfast and loading onto the bus, we took off for the city. It’s a hurry-up-and-wait kinda drive in!
First stop ~ Staten Island Ferry and a great view of Lady Liberty. What a view.
After our classic arrival to the city via the ferry, we made our way on foot through the Financial District of lower Manhattan. We saw the Bowling Green, Wall Street, the NY Stock Exchange, Ground Zero, Trinity Church and the South Street Seaport, which is where we stopped for a leisurely lunch.
We then made our way to Rockefeller Centre where we toured the Radio City Music Hall. Very impressive! We met a Rockette and posed for pictures ~ that was kickin’! We went on stage and under. After the tours, we walked through Rockefeller Square a bit before we headed on a drive-by tour of the UN Building and headed over to China Town.
I must admit, China Town was not as exciting as last year, Mr. Vine! Piece of cake… lots of fake junk for sale, but your children were great at bargaining and paid full price for nothing! Watches, “Tiffany” jewellery and Armani sunglasses were BIG hits (although none were authenticated, but we trust New Yorkers). We’re not sure if we supported the economy or the underground economy! Regardless, fun was had by all!
Dinner at La Mela was terrific, but loud! After a hearty carbohydrate fix, we had the energy to conquer “The Rock”. As the sun set, the numerous hues of nature and man combined to create a memorable NY skyline. They are very tired now, and we teachers are loving that!!!
Have a good night … signing off for now.
